In Farida Ahmed ’s Words
In the past year I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with YouthForce two times in two completely different positions. The beginning of my journey with YouthForce started with the Career Internship Program as an apprentice at Microsoft in the Microsoft Apprentice Program.
My 10 months at Microsoft was a life changing experience and was still so unreal for me to believe that I was working at Microsoft every day in a position that I’ve always wanted to peruse since my freshman year of High School, which is Marketing. This experience not only gave me insight on marketing but also the real reality of the business world. I learned about business etiquette, dressing professionally, the Microsoft culture, and many other lifelong tips about how to be successful. I’ve also had the honor to meet with a lot of great people, one of them being the president of North America Sales & Marketing, Judson Althoff. Microsoft opened so many doors for me and I had the chance to attend WE day as a Microsoft Youthspark Reporter.
Not only did YouthForce give me this amazing opportunity but throughout the year I got so much support with balancing this position and being a senior applying to colleges, FAFSA, creating a great resume, and wrapping up for graduation. I wouldn’t trade my experience with YouthForce for anything else. I loved it so much that when Rachel Andre, the former Career Internship Director told me about another internship opportunity I jumped at the chance and now I currently work as a YouthForce University Intern. My experience so far is wonderful from having supportive managers, Damon and Mynor, to working in a wonderful uplifting environment at the Smilow Boys and Girls Club. I’m looking forward to the rest of my time at YouthForce and the endless opportunities they offer. In just over a year YouthForce has changed me for the better as an employee and a person and has really given me the confidence and skills to continue to succeed.
